Burke County August 18, 2020 Burke County Commissioners tabled for ninety days a proposed rewrite of the Animal Control Ordinance. Surprise changes urged by 7-member Animal Advisory Committee. Only 2 of the AAC are dog owners, apparently. Of the six 2020 meetings of the AAC, five had no published agenda and the sixth had no details. No minutes are posted. The next AAC meeting, open to the public, is scheduled for 8/26/20.

Bladen County February 2018 A proposed ordinance surfaced in Bladen County which would have damaged dog hunting opportunities and traditions. Apparently, a man had approached the Commission in January and asked them to consider a law that would make it illegal to hunt or discharge a firearm from or across a state-maintained right-of-way or to retrieve dogs from a public road while in possession of a loaded firearm. In the February public hearing, dog hunters packed the meeting room. The overwhelming majority of participants opposed more regulations affecting dog hunting.
Warren County January 2018 Responsible dog hunters are working closely with Warren County Commissioners to address a targeted attack against dog hunting. The attack seems to have originated from a real estate agent specializing in marketing land to still hunters. A local Farm Bureau agent reports he has no records of any hunting incidents on highway right-of-ways.
Caswell County Congratulations to Allen Walker and others from Cobb Creek Hunting Club. They prosecuted a dog killer in Caswell County, and never gave up, despite long delays. Thanks to the Prosecutor who stood up for dog hunters and the property rights of citizens.
Halifax County is suffering through serious arguments about dog hunting. The actual problem is a small group of “rogue hunters” in an isolated area of Halifax County. This problem has festered for too long. We urge the County Commissioners to aid the Sheriff’s Department in attacking the problem with additional resources to fight a variety of criminal activities perpetrated by a few persons. These criminals should be prosecuted. Law abiding hunters should not be punished for the actions of a few. April 2017
